In only three weeks a talented team of professionals collaborated to create one of the largest green roofs in the country. It took:
3 miles of edging and 2,200 cubic yards of growing media and 3.9 acres of pre-vegetated mat = 170,000 square feet of green roof!
As part of the City of Chicago’s efforts to modernize O’Hare and save energy, the largest free-standing green roof in Chicago (and one of the largest in the country) has been built using Sika Sarnafil membrane and Green Roof Solutions’ products.

American Life & Accident Insurance Co. Building, Louisville, KY
Roofing Contractor/Installer: American Metal & Roofing
Membrane Manufacturer: Johns Manville
Built atop Louisville’s iconic landmark designed by Mies van der Rohe, this green roof became one of the largest ever installed in the state. The owners and project team are hoping to reduce the impact of this building on the environment, with a special focus on storm water detention. Run-off is the number one cause of pollution to the neighboring Ohio River.

Ledge Kitchen and Drinks, Boston Massachusetts
Installer: Recover Green Roofs, LLC
How can an Executive Chef guarantee his ingredients are as fresh as possible? He can grow them on the roof of his restaurant! Ledge Kitchen and Drinks worked in conjunction with Recover Green Roofs to create a 4,000 sq. ft. fruit, vegetable and herb garden on the roof of the restaurant insuring that their patrons receive the freshest, seasonal ingredients on their plates. By leveraging the skills of their install partner, Recover Green Roofs, they were able to plan ahead for all access needs for the roof, including maintenance and harvesting, while protecting the roof’s membrane.
