Extensive Green Roof Systems
There are 3 basic types of green roof systems: Extensive; Semi-Intensive and Intensive.*
Extensive System
Extensive systems are typically characterized by:
- Less than 6″ of growing media
- Containing a narrow palette of vegetation–sedum and other drought-tolerant, shallow-rooting succulents
- No irrigation necessary
- Relatively lightweight–approximately 5.5 lbs to 7 lbs per inch of media per sq ft of green roof
