ROOT BARRIER

A root barrier will prevent roof top plants from rooting into the membrane as they search for water in drought periods. Our membrane is a 30 mil, polyethylene sheet. We do not coat the barrier with caustic root resistant chemicals. We believe that in time, all coatings eventually leach into the environment after years of rain flow. Root barrier can be sealed with a single sided or double sided Butyl tape designed to keep water from flowing beneath the sheet. We offer both types of Butyl tape. Single sided is 4" in width with roll lengths of 50 linear feet. Double sided Butyl tape comes in roll widths of 2" and 100 linear foot lengths. Allow for overlap when calculating for required coverage.

Not all roofing membranes are vulnerable to the rooting forces of green roof plants. Consult your roofing contractor for choices in a resistant roofing membrane.
